Our Varsity team provides scholastic youth athletes who are part of their high school team with the opportunity to compete in the fall, be a part of a robust winter training program in preparation for tryouts, and compete in several summer tournaments to keep their skills sharp. Our focus is fundamentals and readiness for high school, and creating a team atmosphere that encourages and promotes teamwork, friendships and good sportsmanship.
Our Varsity roster this fall and winter will be comprised of middle and upper class athletes attending High School in the fall of 2019 as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties.
Coach Donnie Dutton who is also the Centreville High School varsity coach leads our Varsity team. Our team competes in regional events during the summer and fall, and offers winter training in preparation for high school tryouts. His assistant coach is Rob Estabrooke who is also the Xplosion commisioner and has many years of travel softball coaching experience. Coach Dutton has a team administrator and two additional professional assistant coaches who are part of his leadership team. Coach Donnie is returning in the 2020-2021 season to lead our 18u Varsity team again!
Xplosion is chartered to feed the high schools quality players. Once competing in high school it is important to keep our athletes competitive while supporting the academic demands of grades, SAT's, and college applications. Our Varsity program accomplishes these goals! The team competes in three to four weekend tournaments during the fall , and two or three in the summer. We endeavor to compete locally in Northern Virginia, but the team occasionally competes in Southern Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or North Carolina if there are no local playing opportunities. The team holds practice two days per week at or near Centreville High School during the tournament season. What's awesome about this team is that we have a great winter training program at our Xplosion indoor training facility adjacent the Chantilly Costco during the 5 month off-season to develop pitching/catching, hitting, and general skills, plus participate in professional strength and agility training so our athletes are in-shape and ready for HS tryouts but can still enjoy the off season with their friends and family! Our schedule supports scholastic sports and academics without over-taxing our athlete’s well-being. Visit our USSSA website for more information.
