SYA Freedom - 2006 U-12 Girls State Cup CHAMPIONS!

The SYA Freedom U-12 girls team was crowned the 2006 Virginia State Cup Champions June 4, defeating the McLean Fusion 1-0 in a hard-fought game at Striker Park in Richmond. Despite overcoming a season of adversity, the Freedom played with a lot of heart to win the championship, scoring a goal in the closing minute of the game. In the semi-final game June 3, the Freedom defeated the very strong McLean Strikers but only after tying the game 1-1, playing two 10-minute overtime periods, and finally deciding the game in penalty kicks. The Freedom salutes the excellent play and sportsmanship of the two McLean teams.

The Freedom will now join big sister team, the U-16 SYA Elite, and the U-16 boys SYA Force to represent Virginia and SYA in the regional championships to be played June 29-July 4 in Virginia Beach.

Congratulations to Coach Dean McAlpin and all the Freedom players! And good luck in regionals!
