Meet SYA Coach and Commissioner Brian Robinson

A youth ruby coach for almost 8 years, leading teams to state championships and receiving the SYA Volunteer of the Year award in 2018 and 2019.

Brian has been a fan of rugby since the early 1990s when he saw a random match televised on cable in high school.  Having played football for 14 years at that point, he immediately knew he wanted to switch to rugby when he went to college. Attending Lock Haven University of PA, his team won the Division II National Championship in his first season, setting the stage for a lifelong passion for the game.  He went on to play throughout college as well as in Europe and returned to coach his Alma Mater's college team, winning the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union's Coach of the Year award in 1999.

Moving to the Centreville area in early 2000, he played with several men's clubs while opening his financial planning practice.  Ultimately, the time it takes to run a business and start a family took priority.  When his first son was born, he began researching local teams for him to begin his own rugby experience, finding SYA in the process.  Brian has now been coaching youth rugby for almost 8 years, leading teams to state championships and receiving the SYA Volunteer of the Year award in 2018 and 2019.  His son Beckett won the State Championship Tournament's MVP across all age groups (K-12) in 2018.

Brian currently lives in South Riding with his wife, Corin and sons, Beckett and Asher where he runs an award winning financial planning firm.  He loves to cook, write, draw, read, and collect rare and vintage spirits. DC Eater magazine recently nicknamed him 'The Indiana Jones of Vintage Spirits'.
