SYA DRAFT PROCEDURES – Central Division Teams

Please remember the Player Participation Rule applies at the Central, National & Anklebiter level!!

ALL PLAYERS MUST HAVE A STARTING POSITION ON OFFENSE OR DEFENSE – ANY ABUSE OF THIS RULE IS GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL AS A COACH IN SYA!!

·         Not all scenarios can be predicted here, so be polite and work out any problems like gentlemen. Do what’s right and fair!!

·         The drafting of players applies to the Central, National & Anklebiter divisions only. All kids are to be placed according to their ability level. The American Division coach has the right to choose any child to participate at the American Division if he feels their ability level or potential warrants their selection at the American level of play. There is no protecting of players from the American team or coach by a Central or National coach, this division plays at the highest level of competition in FCYFL and the best available talent will play at this level. If they are considered a top 11 player (defined as a starter / 2 way player on offense and defense) at American, they will not be allowed to play at a lower level of competition. Liability issues are the main factor in this decision.

·     Fathers serving as coaches, shall be expected to follow their player, the proper placement of the player will always come first.

·         The Central Division has the choice of ALL remaining players not selected to play at the American Division. If there is only one Central team then choose the best available talent. There is no protecting of players from the Central team or coach by a National coach, this division plays at the next highest level of competition in FCYFL and the best available talent will play at this level. If they are considered a top 11 player (defined as a starter / 2 way player on offense and defense) at Central, they will not be allowed to play at a lower level of competition. Liability issues are the main factor in this decision.

·         If there are 2 or more Central teams, the following will apply:

·         Current year Head Coaches of record will be allowed to protect 8 players (this includes your son) from their previous year’s roster in the draft selection process.

·         By protecting 8 previous year players you are gaining an advantage on the opposing coach by starting with players you have already coached. These “protected players” are generally very good players or else you would not be protecting them from the other coach. If by chance they are not the top 8 picks in the draft, then you and the opposing coach need to slot them properly in the draft and work out a draft order that is fair to both teams and coaches (ex: your 8 protected players are slotted in the 1st, 3rd, 6th ,7TH , 8TH, 10th, 11th & 16th round.

·         If your 8 protected players are the best players in rounds 1 thru 8 then you are not allowed to select another player until coach #2 chooses 9 players. You get the 2nd pick in the 9th round of the draft (ie: defined as the opposing coach gets the first 9 picks in this year’s pool of players). If your 8 protected players are not the top 8 picks then slot them in a particular round that is agreeable to all involved.

·         The process of recruiting Assistant coaches with sons of high football ability to play on one team will not be tolerated.

·         If disagreements cannot be settled among our coaches, the SYA Commissioner & SYA Director of Coach Development will call a draft at a location of our choosing and institute a Blind Draft.
